background

Yus was born at Ueno Zoo as one of three brothers, along with Naima (male) and Drow (male), and lived at our zoo for 15 years. In recent years, his aging had become noticeable, and he was kept in a controlled area so that he could live quietly and peacefully. Although his muscle strength and gait had deteriorated, his appetite remained strong, but he began to vomit occasionally from early March.
We tried various measures to make the food easier to eat, such as cutting it into smaller pieces and changing the type of food, but there was no significant improvement. On April 5th, a CT scan revealed a lesion in the esophagus, so the dog was admitted to an animal hospital, but died on April 8th. The cause of death is currently under investigation. The cause of death was squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus.
