About the Friends of the Association

Tokyo Friends of the Zoo is a group for people who are interested in animals, zoos, and aquariums.
We provide you with an opportunity to discover the charms of zoos and aquariums.

We offer a variety of events and information to help children develop an interest in animals, and also to satisfy adults with an interest in biology and zoology.

Membership Benefits

1. We will send you the journal.

General members: "Animals and Zoos" (4 issues per year)

"Animals and Zoos" delivers easy-to-understand articles from various angles, including news about animal care at zoos and aquariums, records of births and breeding, introductions to animal care and exhibition facilities, and the latest topics in zoology (published in January, April, July, and October, A4 format, approximately 50 pages).

If you wish to purchase only the magazine "Dobutsu to Zoo", it is available at Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, Inokashira Park Zoo gift stores and Shousen Grande stores (607 yen per copy including tax).

Junior Member: "ZOO! Zoo Newspaper"

"ZOO! Zoo Newspaper" focuses on one animal in each issue, providing easy-to-understand explanations of its body, lifestyle, and characteristic behaviors. It's a booklet that children can enjoy reading (published in February and August, A4 size, 8 pages).

The "ZOO! Zoo Newspaper" booklet is not sold separately. It is a booklet sent to junior members.

2. Holding events

観察会のようす

1. General Membership

Lectures, observation sessions and tours will be held.
In addition to lectures and tours at Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, and Inokashira Park Zoo, we will also be holding outdoor observation sessions and tours of facilities outside of Tokyo.
Observation sessions will cover a variety of animals, including wild mammals, birds, marine life, and insects.

2. Junior Members

We will hold tours and guided tour for elementary school students and above.
Visits and guided tour will be held at Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, and Inokashira Park Zoo, led by animal keeper and staff.

Depending on the content, there may be age restrictions (grade levels) for each program. In addition, if there are a large number of applicants, a lottery will be held.

3. You can enjoy a 10% discount at the gift shop and food shop.

You can receive a 10% discount at Tokyo Zoological Park Society gift and food shops located in Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, and Inokashira Park Zoo.

Some stores and products are not eligible for discounts.

4. Admission fees will be discounted by 20% (children under elementary school age and junior high school students residing or attending school in Tokyo are admitted free of charge).

There will be a 20% discount on admission to Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, Inokashira Park Zoo, and other metropolitan parks (free admission for elementary school students and younger and junior high school students living and studying in Tokyo).

The discount applies only to the member's own admission fee.
This discount does not apply to the purchase of annual passes. The discount applies only to the purchase of admission tickets.

The counters may be crowded on weekends and holidays.
To join, please use either "1. Postal transfer" or "2. Credit card payment."
Please note that due to administrative procedures, it may take approximately 10 days for your membership card to arrive.

Please be sure to present your membership card when receiving benefits.

For new members, your membership card will be mailed to you once your application has been submitted and the registration process has been completed at the Friends of the Association Secretariat.
The membership period for general members is one year from the month of joining, and the expiration date will be set to March, June, September, or December so that you can receive four magazines.
Membership cards for the following year will be sent out together with the winter issue each year, regardless of the expiration month.
The membership period for junior members is one year from the month of joining (e.g., joining in May ends at the end of April of the following year).
From the next fiscal year onwards, a membership card will be sent each time you renew your membership.
