Giant Panda Conservation Support Fund

Giant Panda are at risk of extinction.

As international conservation efforts are underway, Tokyo has also launched the Giant Panda Breeding Research Project in collaboration with China to conserve pandas and their habitats, and in February 2011, two Giant Panda were welcomed to Ueno Zoo.

In June 2017, Xiang Xiang (female) was born, followed by twins Xiao Xiao (male) and Lei Lei (female) in June 2021. We will continue to observe the pandas' behavior and manage their health on a daily basis, and will also focus on breeding at the zoo so that we can increase the number of pandas as much as possible.

To support this project, Tokyo Zoological Park Society (a public interest incorporated foundation) operates the Giant Panda Conservation Support Fund under the slogan "Spread the Panda's Dream!" Donations received from everyone will be used to support educational outreach activities to inform people about the current state of pandas, environmental improvements at the zoo, and conservation activities.

We appreciate your understanding and warm support for the Fund.

I also support the protection of Giant Panda

Twins Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei were born in June 2021, bringing the total number of healthy pandas born in Ueno to five. We have watched over the growth of each of them - Tong Tong, Yu Yu, Xiang Xiang, Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei - and each one has a lovely, round appearance.

However, these adorable pandas are few in number and above all else, we must protect them to prevent them from becoming extinct.

It is said that there are currently just over 1,800 wild pandas. However, as climate change and other factors are expected to cause a decline in the bamboo forests that are their habitat, assistance is absolutely necessary to protect the environment in which pandas can live.

It's said that pandas are expensive, but please don't think that you have to pay just to have a panda come. We all work together to raise the pandas with care and love. We hope you understand that this also contributes to the conservation of wild pandas. The gradual increase in their population is thought to be the result of these conservation efforts.

I have had a long relationship with pandas, and I was best friends with Kankan, who I think is the cutest. I will continue to do everything I can to help pandas, so I would appreciate your continued support.
