Currently, many wildlife species are facing critical situations due to worsening environmental problems such as habitat loss and ecosystem changes. We must recognize anew that the organisms on Earth are connected to and support each other while maintaining their diversity, and continue our efforts to conserve them.

Tokyo Zoological Park Society, established the Tokyo Zoological Park Society Wildlife Conservation Fund in 2011 to further one of its founding aims, "Contributing to the coexistence of humans and animals." The fund provides grants to zoos and aquariums, as well as to support proactive and ongoing wildlife conservation activities.

The grant also aims to promote wildlife conservation activities by various domestic and international entities and to communicate their value to many people.

When the fund was first established, from fiscal 2012 to fiscal 2018, it provided grants for four activities per year. In fiscal 2018, the system was expanded, and from fiscal 2019 onwards, the grant limit was raised to 1 million yen per project, and to approximately 10 projects per year.
