Ueno Zoo and Tama Zoo alternate conducting "wild animal escape drills" once a year.
Until now, Ueno Zoo 's training has focused on monitoring, tracking, and ultimately capturing escaped animals to ensure they do not harm visitors.

In addition, this time the focus was on guiding visitors to safety as quickly as possible and on first aid procedures in the event of an injury, and the training was based on the scenario Black Rhinoceros escaping from West Garden at around 2:00 p.m. on a weekday in February.
This enabled them to operate radios for communication, check the storage locations of animal capture equipment and rescue stretchers, and transport them, thereby strengthening the emergency response system.

"Wild animals" refers to animal species that are considered to be a danger to humans, such as "specified animals" as defined in the Act on Welfare and Management of Animals.
