Due to construction work from August 31st to January 2027, some animal exhibits will be closed or modified.

As a measure against highly pathogenic avian influenza, we will be replacing the netting in the black Black-feaded Ibis enclosure and crane enclosure in East Garden of Ueno Ueno Zoo, as well as in West Garden and the former peccary enclosure, to prevent small animals from entering.

Due to this construction work, some animal exhibits will be temporarily closed or their locations changed, as detailed below. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our visitors and appreciate your understanding.

Moved from the old peccary enclosure to the breeding facility next to the Pygmy Hippopotamus hippo enclosure.

Collared Peccary (moved on July 26)

Moved from Black-feaded Ibis enclosure to the Crane enclosure.

Sacred Ibis, Crested Ibis, and Northern Bald Ibis were moved (moved on August 31).

Regarding measures against highly pathogenic avian influenza

If highly pathogenic avian influenza occurs among animals in a zoo, it becomes necessary to treat the infected animals, disinfect the animal enclosures, and take measures to prevent the spread of the disease. To prevent such a situation from occurring, Ueno Zoo is taking steps to reduce contact between its captive birds and wild birds.
