We regret to inform you that Ai, a female Collared Peccary (23 years old) that was being kept at the West West Garden Ueno Zoo, has passed away.

On the morning of July 23, 2026, we confirmed the death of Collared Peccary, "Ai," indoors. She was 23 years old.
"Ai," a female born on September 29, 2002, arrived at Ueno Zoo on March 10, 2006, from Izu Shaboten Animal Park as part of a trio of sisters.
After arriving at the zoo, their names were decided as "Ai," "Mai," and "Mii," and a naming ceremony was held in October of the same year (Mii passed away on August 18, 2024, at the age of 19).

It has come to our attention that the name of Collared Peccary was incorrect in the death notice we published today (July 24th, morning). We initially identified the peccary as "Mai" based on its microchip number, but after the article was published, we discovered an error in the registration records of the individual's information, and the deceased peccary was actually named "Ai." Therefore, we are correcting the article.
