Accepting trainees

The program includes lectures and hands-on training sessions aimed at fostering a general understanding of careers and work ethics among university students and others, providing practical learning opportunities in specialized fields, and deepening their understanding of Ueno Zoo 's operations and social significance.

Applications will only be accepted as a group application from schools; individual applications will not be accepted.

Ueno Zoological Gardens will conduct the following experiential training program with the aim of fostering a general sense of career and work ethic among university students and others, providing practical learning for specialized education, and deepening their understanding of the zoo's operations and social significance.

Types and content of practical training

1) Animal Care and Exhibition Course
Experience in animal care and exhibition work

2) Veterinary Clinical Course
Experience in veterinary clinical practice

Eligible

1) Animal Care and Exhibition Course
Applicants must be enrolled in a junior college, university, graduate school, or vocational/specialized school and majoring in a subject related to animals or zoos (high school students are not eligible). Related subjects include zoology, veterinary medicine, biology, animal husbandry, and training courses for technicians in animal handling businesses at vocational/specialized schools.

2) Veterinary Clinical Course
Students in their fifth year or above who are enrolled in a veterinary medicine program at a university.

1) Animal Care and Exhibition Course
September 8, 2026 (Tuesday) to September 21, 2026 (Monday/Holiday) Approximately 8 people

2) Veterinary Clinical Course
September 8, 2026 (Tuesday) - September 21, 2026 (Monday/Holiday) Approximately 2 people

Application period

*Applications for internships in the Animal Care and Exhibition/Veterinary Clinical Practice course for the 2026 academic year have closed.

Deadline: Wednesday, July 15, 2026 (must arrive by (Wed))

*If a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurs in Tokyo or its neighboring prefectures, or any other infectious disease that is highly contagious to animals, we may abruptly cancel or change the acceptance of trainees to prevent infection of animals.
