Internship content

The Education and Outreach Section will conduct an internship program that incorporates a "long-term practical internship (*)" focusing on education and outreach activities. This internship will provide interns with a valuable opportunity to experience the work of a curator as a future career path and to gain experience in the diverse practices and work of a museum. Through assisting staff members with their duties, interns will be able to observe "what the actual work environment is like" and experience "the problem-solving process."
For details on the internship content, please refer to Appendix 1, "Example Internship Schedule for Ueno Zoo Museum."

* "Long-term practical internship" is a type of internship added in 2022, which aims to help participants understand the work of a curator and the realities of museum management by experiencing the practical work of a curator over an extended period (Agency for Cultural Affairs, "Museum Guidelines," 2024).

Application period

Must arrive between April 1st (Wednesday) and May 15th (Friday), 2026
