⑥ The coolness of the animals

Part 1: Facilities and the ingenuity animal keeper

● Cut the hair
Alpaca are domesticated animals bred for their wool, and they do not grow a short summer coat.
They originally inhabit the high altitudes of the Andes Mountains in South America and do not tolerate heat and humidity well.
To prevent heatstroke and for health management purposes, the animals' wool is shorn by staff members every year.

● Others
In addition to providing a pool, misting system, and fans, we also offer ice to help keep the animals as cool as possible.
However, some animals are allowed to come and go freely in a cool bedroom, while others return to their bedroom early.
Please understand if you cannot see it.

Part 2: The animals' own ingenuity

●Measures common to many animals
Shedding a short summer coat, seeking shade, opening their mouths to release body heat, and minimizing movement to avoid raising body temperature are all basic measures that many animals take.

● Take a bath
Many animals, such as Asian Elephant South American Tapir, Sumatran Tiger, Polar Bear, enjoy cooling off by entering the water.

● Heat dissipates from the thinnest parts.
Asian Elephant flap their ears to cool the blood inside and send it back into their bodies to lower their body temperature.

Please take proper precautions against the heat, such as wearing a hat and staying hydrated, before enjoying your visit to the zoo.
