What is MFG?
MFG (Madagascar Wildlife Group) is a non-profit organization (international NGO) established in 1988 with the aim of conserving the wildlife of Madagascar. Its headquarters are located in the United States, and its members, including wildlife experts and zoo personnel from around the world, work in cooperation with local communities and zoos to prevent the extinction of Madagascar's precious flora and fauna.
The relationship between Ueno Zoo and MFG
Ueno Zoo has been conducting joint research with the National Tsimbazaza Zoo in Madagascar since 1999, and in 2001, Aye-aye first arrived at the zoo. Then, in 2008, Ueno Zoo became the first Asian country to join the MFG, becoming a Bronze Member and supporting local programs through annual membership payments. At the 2023 MFG Annual General Meeting, a zookeeper gave an oral presentation on "Implementing Ultrasound Examinations in Pregnant Aye-aye."
