Ueno Zoo" East Garden"—specifically, "Ezo Sika Deer"—"Q," who is being cared for at " " under the "Animals of Japan" program, had been exhibiting an unstable gait due to unsteadiness in his hind legs.
Following an examination on Monday, June 8, 2026, a spinal disorder was confirmed, and severe spinal cord compression was strongly suspected.Starting on the morning of Friday, June 12, he lost strength in his hind legs and was unable to stand. We treated him with pain medication and other therapies, and by Sunday, June 14, he was able to stand on his own. However, starting the following day, Monday the 15th, he has once again been having difficulty standing.
He is currently resting indoors while undergoing treatment. Therefore, his public display will be suspended for the time being.
