event
February 14, 2026 (Updated February 15, 2026)

Every year, the third Saturday of February is World Pangolin Day. It is a day to raise awareness worldwide about the protection of pangolins, an endangered species.

Are you familiar with pangolins? They have many unique characteristics, such as hard scales to protect themselves and a long tongue that they use to lick up ants and termites. However, their numbers are rapidly declining due to poaching and deforestation.

In 2012, Ueno Ueno Zoo received Chinese Pangolin from Taipei Zoo, and for approximately 13 years, until December 18, 2025, it continued to share its presence and charm with the world. Although Chinese Pangolin, it will use its past experience to hold events that spread awareness of the wonder and fascination of pangolins, as well as the importance of conservation.

Panel exhibit

Pangolins are fascinating mammals covered in hard scales. This panel exhibition introduces the fascinating ecology of Chinese Pangolin species we previously kept, as well as the current situation of pangolins in the wild. We also share messages from the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), which conducts conservation activities in their habitat, and from the Taipei Zoo in Taiwan, which contributes to the breeding and rearing of Chinese Pangolin. Please come and visit us.
