As a member of the Japanese Association of Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, our zoo has been participating in the Ministry of the Environment's ex-situ conservation project for Rock Ptarmigan ptarmigan since 2015, and we are working with zoos and research institutions throughout Japan to raise and breed them.
This transfer is intended to consider the genetic diversity among the individuals kept at each zoo and aquarium, to aim for breeding with genetically beneficial combinations, and to develop breeding techniques.
