Measures to prevent infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus

Tokyo Metropolitan Zoos and Aquariums (Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, Inokashira Park Zoo) are implementing the following measures to prevent infection of animals with highly pathogenic avian influenza.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our visitors, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Facilities and birds whose exhibits have been suspended

Bewick's Swan, Oriental stork
Cackling Goose and Swan Goose are on display inside Hippopotamus enclosure (viewing is only possible from 14:00 to 16:15).

Common measures for Tokyo Metropolitan Zoos and Aquariums

Strengthening of monitoring system for dead wild birds in the park
Notices regarding wild birds have been posted throughout the park.
Disinfection of shoe soles using disinfectant mats upon entry to the park.
Disinfection of vehicles entering the park

Regarding what to do when you find a dead wild bird

As a measure against highly pathogenic avian influenza, if a dead wild bird is found on the premises, staff members wearing protective suits and goggles may carry out the removal work.

If you find a dead wild bird in the park, please keep your distance (no more than 2 meters) and inform a nearby staff member or contact us at the main number.

Please note that the death of a wild bird does not immediately cause health problems for humans.
