This natural pond is located between the Ueno and Hongo plateaus and is divided into three sections by a dam. One of these sections, "U-no-ike" (Cormorant Pond), is located within the zoo grounds, where you can observe various wild birds, including the great cormorant from which the pond gets its name. In particular, many ducks and gulls migrate to the pond in winter.
