Online classes (elementary school)

Zoo staff will talk about themes tailored to each grade level, showing videos of animals and specimens. In collaboration with classroom teachers, we aim to make the lessons as hands-on and experiential as possible.

Elementary school 1st to 3rd grade: The body and life of Giraffe

We will focus on each part of Giraffe 's body, such as its tongue, tail, legs, and patterns, and discuss how to innovate and use its shape.
It also provides an observational perspective, making it a great preparatory study for field trips and extracurricular activities.

Elementary school 1st to 3rd grade: The body and life of an elephant

Baby elephant

First, we'll experience the sheer size of an elephant in the classroom. Next, we'll focus on the different parts of an elephant's body and discuss the ingenuity of their shapes and how they are used. We'll also introduce the birth of a baby elephant at Ueno Zoo and its subsequent growth.
It provides a new perspective for observation, making it ideal for pre-trip learning for school excursions and field trips.

4th to 6th grade: Animal feet from the bones

Online lessons on feet

You will observe skeletal specimens of the legs of animals such as Giraffe and tigers, and compare them to how the legs move in living animals. You will learn about the basic structure of bones and joints.
*This is even more effective when combined with observation at a zoo.

Related science unit: 4th grade elementary school "Bones and Muscles"

6th grade: Animal eating habits and digestion

This hands-on program allows children to compare and reason for themselves about three types of animals, including carnivores and herbivores, by observing how they eat their food and the appearance of their teeth and feces.
*If requested, we will lend out fecal content samples to schools in conjunction with the program.
*It will be even more effective if you combine it with observations at the zoo.

Related science unit: 6th grade "The structure and function of the human body"
