August 10th is designated as "Pigeon Day" due to the wordplay "8 (ha) 10 (to)". In honor of Pigeon Day, we will be holding a special guided tour for students to learn about the efforts made at Ueno Zoo to protect Red-headed Wood Pigeon, something we don't often get to share with the public.
Since 2001, Ueno Zoo has been raising Red-headed Wood Pigeon, a species native to the Ogasawara Islands, and has been undertaking conservation efforts. In this guide, we will take you to a facility within the zoo that is not open to the public, animal keeper will explain the efforts being made.

*Event will proceed regardless of rain.
*Participation is limited to one time per person.
Elementary, middle, high school, and university students
*Children under junior high school age may be accompanied by one adult.
*Due to limited space at the facility, the number of participants, including accompanying persons, will be limited to 15 people per session.
*University students are requested to present their student ID.
① Please come to the meeting place at the designated time.
② If there are many applicants, participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
③ The disbanding location is the same as the meeting place.
After explaining the precautions and other details for participation, we will guide you to a non-public facility where pigeons are kept. Inside the facility, animal keeper will explain the ecology of Red-headed Wood Pigeon and the efforts being made to protect it.

• To prevent the spread of infection, please disinfect the soles of your shoes before entering the facility.
The facility is two stories tall, but there is no elevator. Please use the stairs to reach the second floor.
(If using the stairs is difficult, we will only be able to guide you to the first floor.)
Photography is prohibited inside facilities that are not open to the public.
Please refrain from leaving midway through the event. (Except in cases of illness.)
