Children's Zoo STEP

Established in 1948 at Ueno Zoo, the first children's zoo in Japan where children could interact with animals, it was renovated in 2017 to its current form. It features "Futaba Ranch," which mainly raises livestock such as native Japanese Domestic Horse, "Step Hall," which holds programs for observing small animals up close, as well as corners such as "The Birds' House" and "The Little Animals' House."

Vision of Children's Zoo STEP

The word "Step" reflects our desire to create a place where young children can encounter animals for the first time and take their first step in learning about animals and nature.

While carrying on the philosophy it had when it was founded in 1948 of being "a facility where children can interact with animals, instilling in them a love of animals and an interest in science from an early age," the zoo will now offer a variety of new exhibits and experience programs tailored to children of all ages.

Through programs that allow you to learn about domestic animals and wild animals while having fun, we aim to help you take a step towards understanding wildlife and nature.
