The higher the category in each table, the higher the risk of extinction, and CR, EN, and VU are the three categories known as "endangered species." In Tokyo, species that are not at the NT (near threatened) level but are relatively rare are considered "species of concern."

This is a type of weasel that lives in Japan. It has large, sturdy front legs and sharp claws, which are useful for digging burrows and catching prey underground. In autumn, it increases its body weight by more than 1.5 times to prepare for hibernation. During hibernation, it eats almost no food and spends most of its time sleeping in its burrow, but it may go outside on warm days.
