Updated October 9, 2026:
For health management purposes, Southern Rockhopper Penguin exhibit in the "Penguin Ecology" area will be temporarily suspended.
Please see below for further details.
Southern Rockhopper Penguin and King Penguin, which were kept in air-conditioned rooms during the hot season for breeding and to escape the heat, will be available for viewing in the outdoor exhibit area from Monday, October 5, 2026.
Southern Rockhopper Penguin and King Penguin live on islands with cool climates near Antarctica. Japanese summers are difficult for these two species of penguins to survive, so every year around springtime, Tokyo Sea Life Park moves them to air-conditioned rooms to escape the heat and also works on breeding efforts.
As temperatures have dropped, we will be reopening the outdoor exhibits. Additionally, one Southern Rockhopper Penguin chick has grown and is now on display.
Please note that the exhibition may be canceled for health reasons depending on the temperature and other factors. Thank you for your understanding.
Exhibition reopening date
Starting October 5, 2026 (Monday)
