Tokyo Zoo Volunteers (TZV)

1. Activities

The Tokyo Zoological Park Volunteers (TZV) consists of two groups: the Docent Group (DG), which is responsible for educational and outreach activities, and the Service Guide Group (SG), which provides facility tours and event support. Their activities take place Ueno Zoo, Tama Zoo, and Inokashira Park Zoo.

A volunteer wearing a blue apron uniform holds up a photograph about the size of a double-page A3 sheet of paper in front of their body and explains it to visitors.

1. Docent Group (DG)

We conduct educational and outreach activities for visitors, such as "animal demonstration" that explain the animals. (Note: This is not volunteer work to support animal care operations.)

Two volunteers, wearing yellow windbreakers and hats with yellow brims and white tops, are standing behind a table where stamp sheets and stamps are placed, assisting with the event.

2. "Service Guide Group" (SG)

The service guides primarily assist visitors with facility information and event support. (Note: They are not volunteers who support animal care work.)

2. Recruitment Information

Applications for the 2025 Docent Group (DG) and Service Guide Group (SG) have closed.

In principle, we recruit once a year. Members are admitted after completing training sessions and other activities.

The guided tour uses penguin eggs, taxidermied penguins, and other items to give visitors a feel for a penguin's weight, as well as photographs showing their size at birth. The types of penguins on display also change depending on whether it's summer or winter, so you can enjoy the seasonal changes as well.

This guide will show you the colorful eggs of seabirds and the differences between their summer and winter plumage. Let's observe seabirds swimming underwater and explore the differences between them and birds that fly in the sky.

Many creatures live in Tokyo Bay, which stretches out right in front of Tokyo Sea Life Park. This project involves collecting and displaying creatures from that sea, allowing visitors to feel closer to the west shore. After the project is complete, the creatures will be returned to the sea.

The appeal of volunteer work (an appeal from the TSV Secretariat!)

The secrets behind their interesting face shapes and feeding habits, as well as their mysterious body shapes and swimming habits

● Rediscovering the new charms of living creatures and how to enjoy aquariums

Not only visitors, but also the volunteers themselves will be able to discover new charms of the creatures and ways to enjoy the aquarium that they hadn't noticed before.

The smiles and sparkling eyes of the children, and the surprised voices of customers saying, "Oh really?"

● Interacting with visitors

It's a very rewarding moment for me when I can share information about the animals with visitors and appreciate their fascinating aspects.

I love living things, aquariums, and talking to people.

● Interacting with friends who love animals and aquariums

People with similar interests come together to enjoy the activities. There is no compensation or reimbursement for transportation, but volunteering is a very fulfilling experience.
