October 24th: Parent-child observation event "Visiting the habitat of Shuttles Hoppfish" (Registration deadline: October 14th)

Shuttles Hoppfish in Tokyo Bay, which is the northernmost distribution area of the species in Japan, has seen a drastic decline in numbers due to the reduction of its habitat in tidal flats caused by large-scale land reclamation projects in the past. Tokyo Sea Life Park has been conducting Shuttles Hoppfish surveys since 2003, and since 2011, eight facilities, including museums and birdwatching facilities in the inner part of Tokyo Bay, have been collaborating to conduct Shuttles Hoppfish surveys in nearby tidal flats.

In this observation session, we will visit one of the research sites, the Edogawa Drainage Channel, to observe mudflat creatures, including Shuttles Hoppfish, and explain the current state of the mudflats in Tokyo Bay and their importance.
