Tokyo Sea Life Park will hold a variety of programs to convey the charm of the deep sea.
Many of the deep-sea creatures on display at Tokyo Sea Life Park were collected by the aquarium's staff on fishing boats and while fishing.
Winter, when the difference in water temperature between the deep sea and the ocean surface is small, is the best season for collecting deep-sea creatures.
Now is the perfect time to observe deep-sea creatures, so why not join us in taking a peek into the fascinating world of the deep sea?

[Summary]
When you hear the term "deep-sea fish," you might think of something a little strange and rare, but in fact, fishing for deep-sea fish is carried out all over Japan, and there are actually a surprising number of familiar fish in the fishery.
Examples of such deep-sea creatures include the red seabream, the blue-eyed viperfish, and the hairy crab.
However, only a small portion of the fish caught through deep-sea fishing makes it onto the market and onto our dinner tables, and many of the fish caught along with it remain an unused resource.
The Fisheries Research and Education Agency's Development Research Center is conducting research to make effective use of these unused deep-sea fish.
In this presentation, we will introduce the details of our in-depth investigation into deep-sea fishing in Aomori Prefecture, as well as the results of our research into the appeal of the deep-sea fish we encountered there as a food ingredient.
[Mr. Sakurai's profile]
Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1988. He completed his doctoral studies at the Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University, where he conducted research on the systematic classification of conger eels.
Ph.D. (Fisheries Science).
He then worked at the Shiogama Office of the Fisheries Research and Education Agency (Miyagi Prefecture) on research into changes in the feeding habits and distribution of fish in the Tohoku region, and is currently conducting research at the Agency's Development Research Center to utilize underutilized and unused deep-sea fish as new resources.
His hobbies include fishing, cooking and camping.
