Tokyo Sea Life Park is recruiting animal care interns with the aim of fostering a general understanding of careers and work ethics among university students and others, providing practical training in specialized fields, and deepening their understanding of the aquarium's operations and social significance.

Internship period and number of participants

From August 4, 2026 to August 31, 2026 (implemented in 14-day increments, with approximately 4 days being holidays)

Phase 1: August 4th - August 17th, 2026. Number of participants: 3 (1 bird, 2 fish).
Phase 2: August 18th - August 31st, 2026. Number of participants: 3 (1 bird, 2 fish).

The practical training hours are generally from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. However, these times may vary depending on the work required.

Internship content

The practical training will focus on animal care and exhibit work at an aquarium.
Please note that you may be required to participate in some practical training activities, such as educational outreach programs, as needed.

*This is not a museum internship.

Applicants for internships

1) Undergraduate students in their third year or higher (including master's and doctoral students) who are enrolled in a university or equivalent institution and are majoring in a field of natural science.

2) Those who strongly desire to work in an institution that handles the care of living organisms, such as an aquarium or research institution, in the future.

Please check in advance that your internship schedule does not conflict with any classes or seminars.
• This application must be submitted by the student who wishes to participate in the internship. *Personal information is required.
• You will need to contact your affiliated school to complete the internship application process. Please be sure to inform the internship office at your affiliated school that you intend to apply for an internship before submitting your application.

*You will need to provide the contact information for the internship coordinator at your school (department name, address, phone number, and email address).

Selection method and notification of decision

Accepted participants will be selected based on a comprehensive evaluation of their internship application form and assigned essay.
The results of the selection process, regardless of whether or not you are accepted, will be notified to the internship coordinator at your school by Friday, June 26, 2026.
Details regarding the internship will be attached to the acceptance notification.
Those who have been accepted should bring the following documents on their first day of internship.
・1 copy of written oath

Submission of internship report and issuance of completion certificate

You are required to submit a report on your internship within 14 days of its completion. Upon submission of the report, we will issue your internship completion certificate. Please note that if the report is not submitted, the certificate will not be issued.
・To receive a certificate of completion, please prepare a self-addressed stamped envelope (140 yen) with return postage attached.

Regarding infectious disease control measures

1) Take care of your health during the internship period.

2) If you become unwell during the internship period, you must be absent.

3) To prevent infectious diseases, those who have never received a measles vaccination (or do not recall receiving one) must get vaccinated at least two weeks before the start of the practical training. Those who are not vaccinated will not be able to participate in the practical training. However, those who have previously had measles do not need to be vaccinated again.

Other (Notes)

1) On the first day of your internship, we will hold an orientation session, so please be sure to attend (you cannot take time off).

2) If you have any allergies to animals (including marine life), please be sure to declare them.

3) If you have entered or returned from overseas within one month of the start of your internship, please declare the name of the country and region you traveled to (if you have entered a country where an infectious disease such as avian influenza has occurred immediately before the internship, you may not be able to participate in the internship).

4) If you keep animals at school, in club activities, or at home, please declare the type of animal.

5) The nursery will not provide compensation if the intern suffers injury or illness due to an accident or other incident during the internship period.

6) If the nursery suffers damage due to the intern's negligence during the internship, the intern will be required to compensate for the damage according to the nursery's instructions (a written pledge must be submitted in advance).

7) Individuals who have previously completed animal husbandry training at our zoo are not eligible for further training.

8) We have observed cases where students request schedule changes after receiving notification of acceptance because their internship period overlaps with seminars or classes. When applying, please carefully compare the schedule with your school's schedule and make thorough confirmations in advance (schedule changes after acceptance are generally not permitted).

9) Please note that acceptance of interns may be restricted even during the pre-scheduled internship period due to the health status of the organisms (such as breeding) or operational reasons.

10) We do not accept any gratuities, money, or gifts for the internship.

11) No evaluation reports other than the completion certificate will be issued.

12) Do not use AI to automatically generate the essay for the assignment.
