The story of Common Wolf escape: December 28, 2025 (23:10)
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused to many people regarding the escape of Common Wolf that occurred at Tama Zoo today (December 28, 2025).
We would like to explain the details of this matter as follows:
background
At around 10:00 AM today, Sui, a female Common Wolf wolf (2 years old), was discovered escaping from Asian Zone 's wolf enclosure onto the viewing path. The animal entered the forest within the zoo, so a capture team of zoo staff used a capture net to track and chase the animal. At around 2:15 PM, a veterinarian from the zoo's animal hospital administered an anesthetic with a tranquilizer gun behind Watching Center. After confirming the effectiveness of the anesthetic, the animal was placed in a zoo vehicle and its safety was confirmed.
The nursery school closed temporarily at 1:20 p.m., and visitors were evacuated to indoor facilities within the nursery school until safety was confirmed, and were asked to leave once safety was confirmed.
The cause of the escape will be investigated and measures to prevent a recurrence will be implemented, after which the animals will be allowed back on display at the enclosure.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused to visitors, those who were planning to visit, and local residents. We will further strengthen safety measures within the park to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future.
Please see this notice for information regarding refunds of admission fees and Lion Bus fares due to the temporary closure of the park.
