background
At our zoo, we are working to breed Grevy's Zebra in cooperation with other zoos and aquariums, based on the management plan of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
We have decided to take in Nanato and Mindy on a breeding loan (*) in order to aim for new breeding.
Our zoo renovated Eurasian Moorhen area in the spring of 2025, but during the construction period, Grevy's Zebra that was being kept in a temporary enclosure within the zoo died, and its exhibit was interrupted.
This relocation will allow us to reopen Grevy's Zebra exhibit and contribute to the formation of herds through breeding and the maintenance of captive populations in Japan.
This is an animal loan agreement for the purpose of breeding. By transferring animals between zoos, the purpose is to form new pairs and contribute to breeding.
About the release of Nana
After arriving at the zoo, the animals will undergo quarantine in Domestic Horse and oryx enclosure for a period of time.
After the quarantine period ends, we plan to gradually acclimate the animals to their new environment and then exhibit them together with Giraffe, Scimitar-horned Oryx, and Great White Pelican in Eurasian Moorhen area.
We will inform you about the release date as soon as it is decided.
