Summer Special Event "Summer Night @ Tama Zoo 2026: Let's Look Up at the Summer Night Sky Together" (Updated 8/7)

Tama Zoo will hold the "Summer Night @Tama Zoo 2026," which will open for six days in August by extending the opening hours by 3 hours until 8 PM. Please take your time and enjoy the cooled interior of the park.

*For the health management of the animals, the Safari Bridge African Zone will be closed to traffic during the Summer Night event hours (5 PM to 8 PM).
Closing time for viewing major animals and exhibits
*Due to the heat, Lion exhibit and Lion Bus service will be suspended until further notice.
*Due to facility maintenance, Insectarium exhibit will be closed until further notice.

*The exhibition may be temporarily suspended due to cleaning work on the sports field.

*During exhibition hours, animals may be allowed to freely move between their sleeping quarters and exercise area to help them cope with the heat. Some animals may not be visible once they enter their sleeping quarters.
Restaurant and gift shop operations
We will be extending the operating hours of our restaurants and gift shops. Enjoy a meal or drink while exploring the park on a summer evening.

Summer Night Event Information
Nighttime keeper talk
The zookeepers will give keeper talk focusing on the behavior and ecology of nocturnal animals. You might hear some fascinating facts about nocturnal animals that only the zookeepers know.
Each day from 5 PM to 8 PM (approximately 10 minutes)
*Some talks may be canceled in case of rain.

Let's observe insects!
① Heike Village
We will be exhibiting the bioluminescence of Heike Firefly.
Date and Time: August 9th (Sunday), 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Location: Insectarium Insect Picnic Area
*This event can be joined at any time during the scheduled hours. However, you may have to wait during peak hours.
② On-location! Ecological Garden
We will be observing insects, mainly those kept in Insectarium, up close in cases.

Location: Entrance, 1st floor Insectarium Center

Searching for creatures in the woods
In the twilight woods, you'll observe wildlife together with staff who are knowledgeable about wild plants and animals.
Date and Time: August 22nd (Sat), 6:30 PM onwards (Registration closes at 7:10 PM) [Cancelled in case of rain]
Location: Near ⑰ on African Zone map
Target audience: Elementary school students and older
*We will take a short walk through the woods for about 10 minutes.
*This observation takes place in a dark and uneven area. For safety reasons, participation with preschool children (including those in strollers) and participation while wearing sandals are not permitted.
*This event can be joined at any time during the scheduled hours. However, you may have to wait during peak hours.
Special event by volunteers
The Tokyo Zoo Volunteers (TZV) Docent Group (DG) will be holding special events to coincide with World Lion Day (August 10), World Elephant Day (August 12), and Orangutan Day (August 19).
Asian Elephant "Look closely at the elephant and bingo!"
Let's use a bingo card to take a closer look at Asian Elephant.

*The forms will be distributed from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

We will be reading a picture story about orangutans called "Utan the Orangutan."

First session: 5:30 PM (approximately 20 minutes)
Second session: 6:00 PM (approximately 20 minutes)
Location: Asian Zone Pere David's deer Picnic Area
*In addition, guided tours are also available by Tokyo Zoo volunteers.
*The event will be canceled if a special heatstroke warning is issued.
