Zoos & Aquariums for School
Collaboration with schools
Collaboration with schools
Collaboration with schools is a crucial pillar of educational outreach activities at zoos and aquariums. For children with rich sensibilities and curiosity, vivid encounters with living creatures and nature will be an invaluable experience. We offer a variety of educational programs and materials, including programs for schools visiting as a group, programs for teachers, online lessons for schools that find it difficult to visit, and online teaching materials that are useful in the classroom.

Zoos and aquariums offer a chance to encounter a diverse array of creatures. They are also ideal places to observe and compare living things and explore their mysteries. Visit either a Tokyo Metropolitan Zoo or Aquarium and write a research report summarizing your observations, such as "That's interesting!" or "Why?", and submit it to us. All entrants will receive a commemorative gift, and the best report will be selected, with a certificate and prize awarded to the winner.

We offer a variety of educational materials useful for school lessons. These include videos introducing creatures found in Japanese language and science textbooks, booklets on how to care for insects and guinea pigs, and identification charts for teachers who are having trouble identifying insects. If you have a request for a specific educational material, please contact us using the "Teacher's Voice Form" below.

Tokyo Metropolitan Zoos and Aquariums are looking to further strengthen their collaboration with school teachers. To that end, we are undertaking the following initiatives:
Our staff will visit your school to introduce school-specific programs and teaching materials, and to listen to your opinions and requests. The visit will last about an hour, and scheduling is flexible. We would greatly appreciate your cooperation.
Teachers who are thinking, "I'd like to try this kind of lesson at the zoo!" or "I need these kinds of teaching materials!", please let us know. Let's work together!
If you're having trouble keeping pets at school, or if you've been assigned to keep a new pet and don't know what to do, we'll help to the best of our ability.
If your school has a biotope but you don't know how to increase the number of living creatures or how to utilize it, we will help to the best of our ability.
Please let us hear your voice, teacher.
Please feel free to contact us regarding programs for school groups, development of new educational programs and materials, consultations on animal care and biotopes, etc. Comments only are also welcome!
Seminar for teachers
Seminar for teachers
Every year during the summer holidays, we hold a "Zoo and Aquarium Workshop for Lessons," offering a variety of themes to help teachers conduct their lessons, including methods of observing animals, information (knowledge), and field experiences. The content is designed to be learned through hands-on experiences with animals and nature.
We also provide support to individual groups such as educational research associations in local governments.
