On June 20, 2014, Tokyo Zoological Park Society and Nippon Medical School, Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University, a public interest incorporated foundation, signed a Basic Agreement on the Conservation, Research, and Education of Endangered Animals. Since then, the two companies have been conducting research into the breeding and nutritional physiology of various endangered animals, as well as establishing methods for testing and treating their diseases.
On November 9, 2025, an examination and treatment for a nasal lesion in Cheetah kept at our zoo was carried out at the Animal Medical Center of Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University. Our zoo's veterinarians and animal keeper worked together with veterinarians and companion animal nurses at the Animal Medical Center to perform MRI and endoscopic examinations and suture treatment for the fistula that runs from the nasal cavity to the oral cavity, enabling an accurate understanding of the condition and appropriate treatment.
Going forward, the zoo and the university will continue to combine their expertise to work towards conserving rare animals and improving the health management of zoo animals.
