Tama Zoo is working to create an environment where Genji Firefly can thrive by utilizing the natural surroundings within the park.
Every year, we hold an observation event to coincide with the time when fireflies fly, and in 2026, we will hold it in two parts: an "online lecture" and an "on-site observation event."
The program consists of a pre-viewing online lecture (①) and a field trip to the park (②). Viewing ① is a prerequisite for participating in ②.

<Online Course Offerings and Participation Methods (Common to Courses A and B)>
By watching the video distributed in advance, you will gain a deeper understanding of the firefly's body structure, lifestyle, and the efforts being made to manage Genji Firefly at Tama Zoo.
*The URL for the online video will be sent via email to the representative of the applicant.
*Please prepare your own viewing environment.

*The activity of Genji Firefly is affected by the weather. The number of fireflies that can be observed may be small.
*The observation site is about a 20-minute walk uphill.
*The use of cameras and photographic equipment is not permitted during observation.
Participation conditions
This program is for those who meet all of the following conditions.
・Those who can watch the online lecture (①) before the observation session.
・Elementary school age and older (※Elementary and junior high school students must be accompanied by a guardian)
- Preschool children are not allowed to participate (for safety reasons).
*Participation in the park observation tour is only valid for those who applied at the time of application (additions and changes are not possible as insurance procedures are handled in advance).
*The observation takes place in a darkened area of the park, so the above conditions have been set for safety reasons.
Capacity and participation fee
• Capacity: 40 people per course
・Participation fee: Free
*Participants are responsible for the communication costs incurred when viewing the online course.
How to Apply
Please choose either Course A or Course B and apply using the application form below.
*Multiple applications or course registrations from the same applicant will be considered invalid.
*Up to 4 people can apply per application (parents/guardians are included in the count).
*If you are a member of the Friends of the Club, please enter your membership number when applying.
*For Junior members of the Friends' Association, please apply for the event held on a different date.

Application period
Valid for submissions sent until May 25, 2026 (Monday).
If there are many applicants, a lottery will be held, and regardless of whether you are selected or not, you will be notified of the results by email by 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Personal information provided when registering for events will not be used for any purpose other than providing information about the relevant event. Furthermore, we will strictly manage personal information, including data storage and deletion.

The limited access link to the online course videos will be sent to the email address of the representative provided during registration.
• The online course is not live-streamed. You can watch it at your convenience until the day of the observation session.
• We would appreciate your cooperation in completing a survey after the program ends.
- For public relations purposes, etc., we may record the events of the day in a way that does not identify individuals.
