background

Since arriving at Tama Zoo, Kohaku has often experienced health problems, such as watery stools and other digestive issues, so we have taken extra care in managing her health.

On the evening of October 5, 2026, the animal suddenly became sluggish. Even after being moved to its sleeping quarters, it had no appetite. We monitored its condition, changing the way and type of food we gave it, but its poor appetite continued. From October 6 onwards, it underwent treatment and examinations by a veterinarian at the zoo's animal hospital, but it died on October 18 during treatment.

The autopsy revealed that the bile duct was obstructed.
