How I came to the park

In June 2021, Johne's disease, which is protected under the Act on Prevention of Infectious Diseases of Domestic Animals, was detected in Yaku Is Sika Deer deer enclosure. As a result, all 17 Yaku Is Sika Deer deer being kept there were euthanized by December, and Yaku Is Sika Deer exhibit was suspended.
In 2023, the Tokyo Metropolitan Livestock Health and Hygiene Center confirmed the facility was clean, and subsequently, renovation work was carried out from 2026 in preparation for reopening the exhibit.
We have recently acquired five Yaku Is Sika Deer that were being kept at Showa Park in Akishima City, and will be reopening their exhibit.

The breeding of Sika Deer, including Yaku Is Sika Deer subspecies, is subject to the livestock hygiene management standards stipulated in the Act on Prevention of Infectious Diseases of Domestic Animals. When we resume exhibiting the deer in the future, we will take all possible measures to prevent a recurrence of Johne's disease by developing a hygiene management manual based on these standards and strictly enforcing its compliance.
