About the otter exhibit

On Monday, February 9, 2026, two Eurasian Otter, "Dal" (male) and "Byeol" (female), arrived at Tama Zoo from Seoul Grand Park in South Korea.
Because both otters are very wary, we first allowed them to get used to their environment indoors. Then, on Thursday, May 7th and Wednesday, May 13th, when the park was closed, we conducted training sessions where they entered and exited the otter enclosure's water-based enclosure (on the left side) from indoors, and allowed them to get used to the environment.
Dar went out into the enclosure smoothly, explored for a while, and then settled down in a cave-like hiding place. However, when it was time to bring him back inside, he was reluctant to move from his settled spot, so it seemed that he needed a little more time to get used to things.
Meanwhile, Byul, who is naturally wary, sensed the unusual atmosphere when Dal's free-roaming training began and became cautious, retreating into a box set up indoors. It is expected to take some time before she is allowed out into the enclosure.
Starting Thursday, May 28th, the weekday exhibition time for the Asian Oriental Small-clawed Otter will be changed to 1:30 PM. After bringing them indoors, release training for Eurasian Otter will be conducted from 2:00 PM. You are welcome to watch the release training, but please note that it may be canceled or the time changed depending on the animals' condition and the state of their care and management.
After the release training is complete, we plan to exhibit Oriental Small-clawed Otter and Eurasian Otter in the water enclosure on a rotating schedule. We will announce the exhibition times as soon as they are decided.
Preparations are underway for construction work to prevent escapes at the land-based exhibit area (on the right), which is currently out of use. Once the construction is complete, we plan to rotate the exhibits of the two otter species in the land-based and water-based exhibit areas.
