Spring 2025 issue (No.738)

In this issue, we bring you breeding reports on the breeding progress and diverse behavior of Little Grebe being kept at Inokashira Park Zoo, as well as the journey to successfully breeding Sumatran Tiger at Ueno Zoo for the first time in 26 years.

In addition, Ouchi Yo, a curator at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, and Kobayashi Kazuo, a former employee of Ueno Zoo, will depict the historical background and changes surrounding Ueno Zoo at the time through Miura Bunji's Japanese painting "Zoo Outing," which depicts Ueno Ueno Zoo in the early Showa period.

In addition, Tomoyuki Nakamura of the Fisheries Research and Education Agency contributed an article on the current situation of char that live in mountain streams and other areas.
The essay corner, "Talking about humans and animals," features fish print artist Nagashima Sukenari.

We are looking for photos to submit

In the "Readers' Photo Exhibition" section, we are accepting animal photographs taken at zoos and aquariums by members of Tokyo Friends of the Zoo. Both color and black-and-white photos are welcome.
Please send your photo submissions to the editorial department's email address, henshubu@tokyo-zoo.net, with the subject line "Readers' Photo Exhibition," and include your address, name, membership number, the name of the zoo/zoo where the photo was taken, the name of the animal, and a brief comment about your work (up to 10MB, 3 photos per submission). For more details, please see the "Readers' Photo Exhibition" page in the magazine. Those whose photos are published will receive a small gift.
