Tokyo Friends of the Zoo

Animals and Zoos
Summer 2024 issue (No.735)

The cover features Tasmanian Devil that visited Tama Zoo in February 2024.
In this article, we will introduce a new initiative at Tokyo Sea Life Park to collect "plankton" and an initiative to feed bamboo shoots harvested at Tama Zoo to Giant Panda in Ueno.

Yusuke Koshizuka, an employee of Adachi Ward Biological Park, shared with us the efforts that led to the successful captive breeding of the rare insect, the long-horned beetle, which is at risk of extinction.

We will also be covering a variety of topics, including the contents of a "Crested Ibis Roundtable Discussion" in which former zoo staff members who have been involved for many years in the conservation of the Crested Ibis Crested Ibis, another endangered species, talk about the hardships and thoughts they faced at the time, which could be considered the behind-the-scenes story of crested ibis conservation.
