Tokyo Friends of the Zoo

Animals and Zoos
Spring 2015 issue (No.698)

The Jellyfish Rider is a fan shrimp that rides on a jellyfish and eats it.
We will introduce the challenges of raising these animals at Tokyo Sea Life Park.
"What is Zoology?" discusses the broad academic field required for zoos and the academic foundations needed to meet visitor expectations.
We explore the Naked Mole-rat of naked mole rats, which are unusually long-lived for a rodent, with an average lifespan of 28 years, and do not develop cancer.
