With Golden Week over, the park has returned to its normal state. On May 8, 2006, Lulu, a Giraffe giraffe (5 years old), departed for Saitama Children's Zoo.
Lulu wasn't born Tama Zoo, but at Omoriyama Zoo in Akita Prefecture. She was brought to Tama from Akita to help increase Giraffe. Lulu was two years old when she arrived at the zoo. Tama Zoo had only one male giraffe named Fujita, but they were ultimately unable to breed. Sadly, Fujita injured his leg, which ultimately led to his death.
Without a male, breeding is impossible. Tama Zoo has been working hard to acquire a male, but that wish does not seem likely to be fulfilled anytime soon. Therefore, they have decided to loan Lulu to Saitama Children's Zoo in the hopes of breeding.
The reason Lulu was chosen is that she, being an outsider, had difficulty adjusting to the group of females at our zoo. I don't think living in a new environment would be a bad thing for Lulu at all.
Lulu is a beautiful female with lovely facial features and a striking reticulated pattern, and she has a magnificent physique. We all believe that she will give birth to healthy and adorable babies.
