└─ 2023/09/03 (03/18 updated)
Updated March 18, 2024
Asa (female), Sumatran Tiger, had been on display for shorter hours than usual, but since her training has progressed smoothly, she will be on display for the same hours as the adult tigers starting Tuesday, March 19th.

Please note that on the same day, the release practice (practice letting them out into the exhibit area) for "Mimpi," "Alona," "Abadi," and "Makumuru" will begin. During the practice, the exhibit of Asa and the other tigers will be temporarily suspended, so please be aware of this in advance (please see here for information on the exhibit of the four tigers).

Updated on February 26, 2024
Asa (female), Sumatran Tiger, was previously only on display in the second enclosure, but since her training has progressed smoothly, we will now also use the first enclosure. The display time will remain approximately two hours, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

Please note that we will not know which enclosure will be used until shortly before the event, so please check on-site.

During crowded times, please refrain from staying in the same spot for extended periods to take photos, and be considerate of others while viewing the exhibits. Please also note that exhibits may be canceled or schedules changed without prior notice due to animal conditions, weather, or other circumstances. Thank you for your understanding.

Updated October 30, 2023
Asa, Sumatran Tiger, is currently undergoing free-roaming practice (practice being let out into the exhibit area) on days the zoo is closed. Starting October 31st (Tuesday), she may also undergo practice irregularly for about 30 minutes on weekday afternoons. As she is getting used to the exhibit environment and going in and out of the indoors and outdoors, please observe her quietly so as not to startle her.

Please note that as this is still a training phase, we are unable to answer inquiries regarding the availability or schedule of release training sessions. Thank you for your understanding.

Announcement dated September 3, 2023
As previously announced, the female Sumatran Tiger cub, which was switched from assisted feeding to artificial feeding on May 28th, now weighs 9,300g as of August 31st, 2023.

We started giving the cub small amounts of minced horse meat on June 12th to wean it, and we've been gradually increasing the amount as it grows. Lately, when we give it chunks of horse meat, it has started to bite and eat them skillfully with its molars, just like an adult tiger. Its physical abilities are also developing well, and it can easily go up and down stairs. In addition, it is exhibiting many tiger-like behaviors, such as scratching its claws and sneaking up to toys in the room before pouncing.

Even during the meeting with Manis (female) across the bars, he didn't seem afraid of Manis; he would peek into the adjacent bedroom on his own, rest near the bars, and so on.

On the other hand, several tests conducted for health checkups have revealed a suspected congenital kidney abnormality. Abnormal values have also been observed in blood tests. Although the baby's weight is low for its age, as mentioned above, the child is growing healthily, so we will continue to monitor its condition and conduct further tests and treatments.

The name is,We named it "Asa," which means "hope" in Indonesian. It embodies two wishes: that it will be a source of hope for the future breeding of Sumatran Tiger, and that it will grow up healthy and strong, overcoming any congenital diseases. It also matches the name of its mother, "Mimpi," which means "dream" in Indonesian.

Going forward, we will gradually begin practicing bringing the animals out into the exhibition hall in preparation for their public debut. Once the opening date is decided, we will post it on our website.
