Updated July 29, 2024:We have added information regarding the exhibition format for Sumatran Tiger mother and cub from August 1, 2024 (Thursday) onwards.
Please see here for details.
The three Sumatran Tiger cubs born on December 4, 2023 (see article about their birth
here) have grown to weigh approximately 7 kg as of February 12, 2024. Since mid-January, the cubs, who had previously tended to stay in the birthing room, have started to come out more frequently, and there have been more instances of them playing and frolicking with their siblings.

Scenes from room change practiceAround January 26th, the pup began showing interest in meat, taking some of its mother Minpi's food and chewing on it. Minpi doesn't immediately take the meat away from the pup, but instead watches over it for a while. At first, it seemed to be struggling just to nibble on the meat, but when its weight was measured on February 12th, its droppings had changed from yellow milk stools to the same dark brown stools as adult animals, suggesting that it is now able to eat meat.

The way they eatThe nicknames for the three tigers were chosen as follows, either related to the name of their father, "Bran" (which means "moon" in Indonesian), or as a wish for the prosperity of Sumatran Tiger.
| Nickname | meaning | intention |
|---|
| Male ① | Alona (Arona) | solar | Inspired by Bran's "The Moon" |
| Male 2 | Abadi (Abadi) | Eternal | May Sumatran Tiger remain forever |
| female | Makmul (Makmur) | prosperity | So that descendants may prosper |
*Both the nickname and its meaning are in Indonesian.
Going forward, we will gradually conduct practice runs to bring the exhibits out into the exhibition hall in preparation for the public opening. We will inform you again once the opening date has been decided.
Updated March 18, 2024: Regarding weekday release practice
Sumatran Tiger "Mimpi" and her three cubs "Alona," "Abadi," and "Makumuru" are currently undergoing free-roaming practice (practice being let out into the exhibit area) on days the zoo is closed. Starting March 19th (Tuesday), these practice sessions may also take place irregularly on weekday afternoons for about 30 minutes. As they are getting used to the exhibit environment and going in and out of the indoors and outdoors, please observe them quietly so as not to startle them.
Please note that, as with Asa's training, the exhibits of other tigers will be temporarily suspended during the training session and will resume after the training is complete. (For more information on Asa's exhibit,
please click here.)
As this is still in the training phase, we are unable to answer inquiries regarding the availability or schedule of release practice sessions. We appreciate your understanding.
