Parents: Father Hagler (Ehime Prefectural Tobe Zoo) Born on July 4, 1987, at the San Francisco Zoo. Mother Mimi (Ehime Prefectural Tobe Zoo) Born on May 8, 1986, at Tokuyama Zoo in Shunan City.

At Ueno Zoo, since the death of the female hippo, Satsuki, in April 2011, only the male, Jiro, had been kept. Therefore, in order to breed hippos, which are an endangered Hippopotamus, they were searching for a female capable of reproduction.
We are pleased to announce that we have borrowed a female hippo named Yui from Ehime Prefectural Tobe Zoo through a breeding loan program, and we plan to begin Hippopotamus breeding efforts.

※About breeding loans
This refers to an animal loan agreement for the purpose of breeding. The aim is to actively promote breeding by moving animals between zoos.
