Giant Panda cub, born on June 12, 2017, reached 100 days old on September 20. During its 12th physical examination, conducted from 10:17 to 10:29 AM, its weight had increased from 5.4 kg on September 10 to 6.0 kg, and its length had grown from 62.4 cm on September 10 to 65.0 cm. It is growing well.
Physical measurement in progress (September 20, 2017)
Checking teeth (September 20, 2017)
Its hind legs have become stronger, allowing it to support its body and take a few steps forward. Its eyes have also become more alert, but it's still too early to tell how far it can see. Last time, I reported that its upper and lower canine teeth had started to grow in, and now they are clearly visible as soon as it opens its mouth.
Mother and child in the indoor exhibit
Mother Shin Shin spends all day indoors with her offspring. She licks her baby, nurses it, helps it defecate, and takes good care of it, while resting and eating the rest of the time.
Until the end of August, both mother and baby stayed in the birthing room, but from September 4th onwards, they were allowed to move freely between Indoor Exhibition Room 2 and the birthing room. Shin Shin moves around sometimes with her baby, and sometimes by herself.
The system in which staff stayed overnight to monitor the mother and child ended on the evening of September 17th. Going forward, observation will continue using video recordings and other methods. Physical examinations will also be conducted as needed. For the time being, physical examinations will be conducted approximately every 10 days, but this schedule may change depending on the child's condition.
We will be able to announce the baby's name soon. Please look forward to it.
