Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda cub born on June 12, 2017, turned 150 days old on November 9. From 10:02 to 10:10 AM, the 17th physical examination was conducted. The weight has increased from 9.1 kg on October 30th to 9.9 kg (+0.8 kg), but the body length could not be measured due to vigorous movement. The animal's health is good.
The mother (Shin Shin) and her cub (Xiang Xiang) are free to enter and exit Indoor Exhibit Room 2 and their sleeping quarters throughout the day, and they are also allowed to enter Indoor Exhibit Room 3 in the mornings and evenings.
In Indoor Exhibit Room 2, the shutters were opened and closed on October 30th and November 6th, both days the park was closed, to allow Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang to become accustomed to the sight and sound of people in the visitor walkway. During these times, Xiang Xiang was observed approaching very close to the glass surface.
In addition, to help them get used to being outdoors, they were allowed to freely move between the E2 outdoor exercise area and the birthing room starting November 7th. At first, only Shin Shin went outside, but at around 3:30 p.m. on November 9th, Xiang Xiang went out from inside to the outdoor exercise area on her own for the first time, and about 15 minutes later, she was seen being carried back inside by Shin Shin.
Shin Shin takes care of Xiang Xiang by licking her body, nursing her about twice a day, helping her with excretion, and the two can be seen playing together. The rest of the time, they alternate between resting and foraging. They are fed bamboo, dwarf bamboo, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings, and their feeding is going well.
Xiang Xiang has been walking around the indoor enclosure more frequently, and on November 6th, she was observed climbing onto a log placed in the enclosure for the first time. Also on November 6th, she was observed urinating on her own for the first time.
