Xiang Xiang, the female Giant Panda cub born on June 12, 2017, turned 160 days old on November 19. On that day, from 8:36 a.m. to 9:01 a.m., she underwent her 18th physical examination. Her weight increased from 9.9 kg on November 9 to 10.6 kg (+0.7 kg). Her body length could not be measured because Xiang Xiang was moving around a lot. Her health is good.
The mother and child can move freely between the bedroom and the indoor exhibit area, but the viewing walkway side of the indoor exhibit area is made of glass and can be shuttered. On days when the park is closed or before opening hours, they practice opening and closing this shutter to get used to being visible from the viewing walkway.
Xiang Xiang is moving around the room more actively than ever before. She has been seen trying to climb the bars of the door and standing on all fours on top of logs. When staff enter the room to clean, she approaches them, sometimes clinging to their legs and biting their boots. She has also been seen chewing on the bamboo that her mother is eating, although this cannot be called "foraging."
Mother Shin Shin is diligently caring for her offspring, licking them, nursing them (about once or twice a day), and helping them defecate. They are eating, resting, and generally healthy.
