Xiang Xiang, the female Giant Panda cub born on June 12, 2017, turned 170 days old on November 29. She underwent her 19th physical examination around 9:00 AM that day. Her weight increased from 10.6 kg on November 19 to 11.4 kg (+0.8 kg). Her length was not measured. She is in good health.
The mother and cub spend their days in the indoor enclosure, bedroom, and outdoor exercise area (not open to the public) of Giant Panda enclosure, and at night in the indoor enclosure and bedroom. The birthing room has its entrance closed and is not currently in use. On days when the park is closed or before opening hours, animal keeper stand in front of the glass windows while opening and closing the shutters to help the animals get used to being seen by many people (they are not open to the public).
Xiang Xiang's activity pattern is to be awake for 1-2 hours and then sleep for about 2 hours. When she is awake, she is very active, walking around the indoor exhibit area and climbing on the trees and door bars. She has started to play with her mother, Shin Shin, and the boots of animal keeper who come inside to clean. She is also often seen putting bamboo leaves in her mouth next to Shin Shin, but she doesn't seem to be swallowing them yet.
Shin Shin is diligently taking care of her baby, licking it, nursing it (about once or twice a day), and helping it defecate. She is eating, resting, and generally doing well.
