A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted around 8:00 AM on January 25th, when she was 227 days old. Her weight was 16.4 kg, an increase of 1.5 kg from 14.9 kg on January 15th. Her length was not measured.
Mother "Shin Shin" and Xiang Xiang spend their days in indoor exhibit rooms 2 and 3, and outdoor exercise area A (scheduled to open to the public from February 1st). At night, they spend their time in indoor exhibit rooms 2 and 3, and their sleeping quarters.
Since January 13th, Xiang Xiang has been going out to outdoor exercise area A almost every day, and on Wednesday, January 24th, she went out to the snow-covered outdoor exercise area for the first time. Without being surprised or scared, she walked, ran, and climbed trees on the snow. She was also seen occasionally putting snow in her mouth.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, spending the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not consistent. Sometimes she may be awake for as long as 4 and a half hours at a time, or sleep for as long as 7 hours.
Additionally, they are often seen chewing on bamboo, apples, and carrots that their mothers are eating, but it has not yet been confirmed that they are actually foraging for them.
Shin Shin takes care of Xiang Xiang by licking her body, nursing her about twice a day, and helping her with her bowel movements. Shin Shin also frequently eats bamboo, bamboo grass, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings.
