A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted at approximately 8:55 AM on March 5th, when she was 266 days old. Her weight was 20.6 kg, an increase of 0.8 kg from 19.8 kg on February 25th. Her length was not measured.
Mother Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang spend their days in indoor room 2 and outdoor exercise area A of Giant Panda enclosure, and their nights in indoor rooms 2 and 3 and their bedroom.
Since January 13th, Xiang Xiang has been going out to outdoor exercise area A almost every day, and she can be seen playing with the branches, pine cones, and burlap sacks that animal keeper have prepared for her. She can also be seen hanging headfirst from trees and wooden platforms.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, spending the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not constant. When she rests during the day, she often sleeps in a tree in her enclosure (No. 2), and sometimes sleeps for as long as 8 hours at a time.
They are also often seen chewing on bamboo, apples, and carrots that their mothers are eating, but "foraging" has not yet been confirmed.
Shin Shin continues to nurse Xiang Xiang two to three times a day, help with her bowel movements, and take care of her. Shin Shin also eats bamboo, bamboo grass, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings.
