A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted at approximately 8:57 AM on April 5th, when she was 297 days old. Her weight was 24.1 kg, an increase of 1.1 kg from 23.0 kg on March 25th. Her body length was not measured.
Mother Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang spend their days in indoor room 2 and outdoor exercise area A of Giant Panda enclosure, and their nights in indoor rooms 2 and 3.
Since January 13th, Xiang Xiang has been going out to outdoor exercise area A almost every day, showing interest in various things around her, playing energetically, and often seen playfully interacting with her mother, Shin Shin.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, spending the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not fixed. In the mornings, she goes outside with her mother, Shin Shin, but during the day she can be seen sleeping in the trees in her enclosure or outdoors, sometimes sleeping for as long as 8 hours at a time.
Furthermore, it has often been observed nibbling on bamboo, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings that its mother is eating, but it has not yet been confirmed that it is actually foraging for food.
On March 26th, Xiang Xiang was observed for the first time playing in the outdoor swimming pool while sitting, just like an adult. On March 30th, a resting platform was installed in indoor room 3, and she seems to like it, as she is often seen resting on it at night.
Shin Shin continues to nurse Xiang Xiang about 3-4 times a day, help with her bowel movements, and take care of her. Shin Shin also eats bamboo, bamboo grass, bamboo shoots, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings.
