A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted around 9:00 AM on May 15, 2018, when she was 337 days old. Her weight was 26.6 kg, an increase of 0.3 kg from 26.3 kg on May 5. Her body length was not measured.
Mother Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang spend their days in indoor room 2 and outdoor exercise area A of Giant Panda enclosure, and their nights in indoor rooms 2 and 3.
Since January 13, 2018, Xiang Xiang has been going out to outdoor exercise area A almost every day. She shows interest in various things around her, plays energetically, and is often seen playfully interacting with her mother, Shin Shin.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, and spends the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not constant.
Previously, the pup had often been seen nibbling on bamboo shoots, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings that its mother was eating. However, on the evening of May 10th (Thursday), when it was given a piece of apple along with other food, it was observed holding the apple with its front paws and eating it little by little by scraping it with its teeth. Since then, it has been observed eating apples almost every day.
Furthermore, the baby teeth are falling out and being replaced by permanent teeth, and it has been confirmed that the lower left canine tooth fell out on May 10th, and the upper right canine tooth fell out on May 12th.
Shin Shin continues to nurse Xiang Xiang about 4-5 times a day, help with her bowel movements, and take care of her. Shin Shin also eats bamboo, bamboo grass, bamboo shoots, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings.
