As Giant Panda Xiang Xiang, born on June 12, 2017, approaches her first birthday, we would like to provide an update on the mother and cub's current situation.
Mother Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang spend their days in indoor room 2 and outdoor exercise area A of Giant Panda enclosure, and their nights in indoor rooms 2 and 3.
Since January 13, 2018, Xiang Xiang has been going out to outdoor exercise area A almost every day. She shows interest in various things around her, plays energetically, and is often seen playfully interacting with her mother, Shin Shin.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, and spends the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not constant.
Up until now, the cub had often been seen nibbling on the bamboo, bamboo shoots, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings that its mother was eating. However, on the evening of May 10th, when it was given a cut apple along with other food, it was observed holding the apple with its front paws and eating it little by little, and since then it has been eating apples almost every day.
Additionally, on May 25th (Friday), the cat was observed eating about 15g of bamboo shoots, but since then, it hasn't been seen actively eating bamboo shoots much.
Shin Shin continues to nurse Xiang Xiang about 4-5 times a day, help with her bowel movements, and take care of her. Shin Shin also eats bamboo, bamboo grass, bamboo shoots, apples, carrots, panda dumplings, and pellets well.
